The Unicorn
Tapestry--
I worked this piece in the early 1980's; it really taught me the patience
required to work such a large piece with thousands of petit point stitches. But
in order to obtain the detail of the numerous animals, flowers, and faces, it
was necessary to work in very small stitches (400 per square inch when the
penelope canvas was divided). The most difficult item to work was the navy blue
"island" because the threads matched the painted canvas and were very difficult
to stitch. I was employed full-time as an academic librarian and this piece took
me almost two years in my "spare" time. But I consider it to be my best work!
