Choosing a Background
Color
When faced with a painted canvas, quite often the
background is the stark white of the regular canvas. In general, we recommend
staying away from pure white or stark black, unless a special statement is to be
made.
Some of the items to consider when deciding on a background color--
1. What are the interior room and upholstery colors where the final piece will
be displayed? You may want to think of the background in the same terms as you
would a matte around a framed piece of art; the background should complement
both the art work and harmonize with its surroundings.
2. Will the background color cause any of the
design elements to be "lost;" for example, will the background color be too
close to some of the design so that is becomes obscured?
3. The background is generally a "foil" for the design, so in most cases, you
want to consider something fairly neutral. For most items, consider off whites,
light grays, tans, light blues, etc.
